GOD'S WORD DAILY

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 6             JULY 17, 2001

OUR WALK WITH GOD,
     WORD OF THE DAY: "UNITE"

Scripture reference: a prayer of David, Psalm 86:11, Amplified Bible:
"Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk and live in your truth;
direct and unite my heart [solely, reverently] to fear and honor
your name."

New Wilson's Old Testament Word Studies, defines "unite,"
" to become one, to be united, joined; to make one, to unite."

Webster's Dictionary expands the definition of "unite," by saying,
"1. To join, combine, or incorporate so as to form a single
whole or unit. 2. To cause to adhere: to unite two pieces of wood with glue."
Synonyms include "conjoin, couple, link, yoke, amalgamate, consolidate,
weld, fuse, blend, merge."

Unite: Coupled together with.

David prayed that God would unite his heart together with reverence of His name.

Ecclesiastes 12:13, Amplified Bible:

"All has been heard. The end of the matter is, Fear God- know that He is,
revere and worship Him- and keep his commandments; for this is the whole of man
[the full original purpose of his creation, the object of God's providence,
the root of character, the foundation of all happiness, the adjustment to
all inharmonious circumstances and conditions under the sun], and the whole
duty for every man."

Because our sole duty is to reverence God and keep his commandments,
it will require our hearts be united together with God to this purpose,
just as David prayed.

Matthew 11:28 quotes Jesus, saying, " Come unto me all who labor and
are heavy- laden and overburdened and I will cause thee to rest... Take
my yoke upon you, and learn of me...…"

Yoking ourselves together with unbelievers will neither give us rest,
nor will it allow us to learn of Him. Light has no communion with darkness.
How is learning unbelief and worldly ways going to teach us how to live
the Word better? We want to yoke up together with God, in Christ. We want
to fellowship in the Light as He is the Light. We want to be unified with
others who have ordered their life according to this same principle, with
our hearts knit together in love. We want God to lead us into all truth and
be taught of Him so that we may walk and live in the truth. Our whole duty is
to reverence the Lord God and keep His commandments. This begins with uniting
our hearts together with His purpose; reverencing His name.
