HOW TO FEAR GOD, Part VII
     WORD OF THE DAY: "SERVE"

Scripture references: Joshua 24:14, 2 Kings 17:35, Hebrews 12:28:

"Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity
and in truth: put away the gods which your fathers served
     and serve ye the Lord."

"With whom the Lord had made a covenant, and charged
them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves
to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them."

" Therefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved,
let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with
      reverence and godly fear."
Hebrews 12:28

Serve, as it is used in Hebrews 12:28 = " to serve, esp. for hire, but also of service without
pay. To render service to God, esp. with reference to sacrifice; hence, to worship."
(Bullinger's Critical Lexicon and Concordance of the English and Greek New Testament)

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that
ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
     which is your reasonable service."
Romans 12:1

Have you ever been to a restaurant where you received unacceptable service? Perhaps the waiter
was not especially friendly, saying one thing, doing another, hard hearted and rough. Perhaps
the waiter devoted all his time to another table, ignoring yours. It is unlikely you will return
to eat at that place again.

In contrast, our favorite places to go out to eat have both great service and great food. We
reasonably expect acceptable service. We pay for it!

Unacceptable service to God is service to Him with insincerity, deceit, legalism, and unholiness.
It is service divvied between Him and some other false god. We cannot serve both God and mammon
at the same time. Serving God, while going through legalistic, or ritualistic, religious motions,
is unacceptable to Him. Man looks on the outside appearances, but God looks at the heart.

To God, acceptable service is service with loyal reverence to Him first, in sincerity, and truth,
having grace, while each servant presents himself as a holy, living sacrifice. God reasonably expects
acceptable service from us. He paid for it with the blood of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ!

Jesus is the Bread of Life. We will never hunger and thirst again at His table. God delivered us
from having to eat at satan's miserable card table and gave us the keys to God's Great Banquet Hall,
in His Kingdom, where we will eat for all eternity. Becoming a living sacrifice for Him, devoting
our lives to Him, is reasonable and acceptable service.

Let us acceptably serve God. Amen.
