WORD OF THE DAY:
     BE NOT SERVANTS OF MEN

Be not the servants of men. Of course, we work with and work for other people. Many of us have bosses or teachers or parents to whom we are subject. What is this verse saying? Don't work for others?

Our lives are lived in a manner of heart. When we work, we work heartily as unto the Lord, not unto men. We are followers of God as dear children, and we imitate the head of the church, which is Jesus Christ. We live as servants for Christ, not as servants to any man.

Our focus is not on pleasing men, but it is on pleasing God. It is God who redeemed us, from death unto life, with the blood of Jesus Christ. Therefore, we ought obey God rather than men. However, we still must submit ourselves one to another in the fear of the Lord.

     1Corinthians 7:22, 23

          For he that is called in the Lord,
          being a servant, is the Lord's
          freeman: likewise also he that is
          called, being free, is Christ's servant.

          Ye are bought with a price;
          be not ye the servants of men.

     Ephesians 6:5

          Servants, be obedient to them that are
          your masters according to the flesh, with
          fear and trembling, in singleness of your
          heart, as unto Christ.

     Acts 5:29

          Then Peter and the other apostles answered
          and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

     Colossians 3:22-24

          Servants, obey in all things your masters
          according to the flesh; not with eyeservice,
          as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart,

[Sincerely, without self seeking, without hypocrisy,
          copiously]
fearing God:

          And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

          Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive
          the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve
          the Lord Christ.

     Ephesians 5:21

          Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

     1Peter 2:13

          Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the
          Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme.

     Service to God in Christ is a matter of heart. We work heartily as unto the Lord, not
     unto men. Yes, we continue to submit ourselves to one another, and to the laws of our
     land but our focus is to please God. Let us be servants of Christ with singleness of mind.
     Amen.
