GOD'S WORD DAILY

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 1       JULY 13, 2001

OUR WALK WITH GOD,
     WORD OF THE DAY:PRESS

Scripture reference: Philippians 3:14
"I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."

"Press"

Bullinger's Critical Lexicon and Concordance to the English
and Greek New Testament,
defines press toward:
"to pursue after, follow earnestly."

What did Paul press toward, pursue after and earnestly follow?
He diligently pursued toward the mark, the goal. He pursued
what he looked at and what he was aiming for. He followed the
course God set for him. No matter what situations he was faced with,
Paul kept pressing toward the goal. Paul knew he would be rewarded
for fulfilling the high (up, above, upwards) call of God.

The call of God is a high call. It is not the call of the wild.
It is not a worldly call which is sensuous and devilish.
He called us to produce much fruit. It is a call that progresses
forward and upward. We are victorious through Christ, but only if
we do not quit.

If we quit before the goal is reached, how will that glorify God?
Why would a non- Christian want what we have if all the Christians
they know are quitters and never seem to go anywhere with their faith?
If our life does not reflect who we are in Christ, what kind of witness
is that for God? Let us match our words and our conduct with the
manifested Word of God in our lives.

If you are an alcoholic, you reflect the world's call. If you use
people and engage in sex outside of marriage, that too, is the call
of the world. This list could go on and on. Let us put off the old
man who is dead in trespasses and sins and put on the new man, who
is created in righteousness in Christ Jesus.

Pursue God's call with persistence and determination. Obstacles will
be there. Press on! Press on! Press toward the goal! Never give up!

Maybe you do not know what God has called you to do yet. In that case,
go do something you enjoy and serve. Here are two ideas. You can think
of more. If you love to cook, then you could prepare a meal for a new
mom, for a new neighbor or for someone who needs a lift up. If you are
good at repairing things, go help someone fix something. Your gift will
make room for you. Don't just sit there and think you can't do anything.
You are valuable to the body of Christ and your talent is needed.

In her book, A Leader in the Making, Joyce Meyer wrote,
" Gifts are given; character is developed. You must develop character
so God can trust the way you will use your gifts." Keep at it and as
you go, God will make your way clear as you acknowledge him in all you
do.

Press on. God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.
You will reap if you faint not.

"Press toward the mark…"
