GOD’S WORD DAILY

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 96                                                              NOVEMBER 8, 2001

WORD OF THE DAY:
     ONE GOD

There is one God. Jesus served and worshipped the one true God, His Father. There are
many names by which God is known, (way over a hundred!) such as Elohim, God
Almighty, Jehovah and I AM. But He is one God, not many. Any time we serve or worship
any one or any thing above God, our Heavenly Father, the God Almighty, we become
     idolaters.

     1Corinthians 10:7

Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them...

The Greek word for idolaters here, is used seven times in the Greek New
Testament. The phrase, one God, is used seven times in the whole Bible. Why is
this significant? The number seven indicates spiritual perfection.

     Luke 4:8

And Jesus answered and said unto him, Get thee behind
me, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord
thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

     Revelation 22:14, 15, 17

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may
have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the
          gates into the city.

15 For without [outside the doors] are dogs, and sorcerers
[Greek: pharmakos= enchantment with drugs], and
          whoremongers
[Greek: pornos =prostitutes, debauchee,
          fornicators]
, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth
[friend of] and makes a lie [Greek: pseudos = falsehood]

17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that
heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And
whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

The penalty for idolatry is serious!

     James 2:19

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well:
the devils also believe, and tremble.

     Malachi 2:10

Have we not all one father? hath not one God created
          us?

     Mark 12:32

And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast
said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none
          other but he.

     Romans 3:30

Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision
by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

     1Corinthians 8:6

But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are
all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ,
by whom are all things, and we by him.

     Ephesians 4:6

One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through
          all, and in you all.

     ITimothy 2:5

For there is one God, and one mediator between God
          and men, the man Christ Jesus;

It is extremely important to keep Jesus Christ and God distinctly separate so we do not
erroneously make Jesus a god, an idol. Although God, our Father, and Jesus Christ, our
Lord, have similarities, they are not identical. Jesus is a man. God is Spirit. God knows all.
Jesus does not know when He will return. (Mark 13:32) Jesus was tempted in
all things. God cannot be tempted with evil. (James 1:13, Hebrews 4:15, Luke 4:1ff)
     God is not a man. (Numbers 23:19, I Chron. 29:1, Job 33: 12, Acts 17:29, John 4:24)
     Jesus is a man.

If there are any differences between two things, any at all, they cannot be identical.
Therefore, Jesus is not God. He worshipped and served God himself! Now, Jesus is seated
at the right hand of God and makes intercession for us.(Ephesians 1:20) He is the mediator
     between God and man.

     1Samuel7:3

And Samuel spoke unto all the house of Israel, saying,
If ye do return unto the LORD with all your hearts,
then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from
among you, and prepare your hearts unto the LORD,
and serve him only: and he will deliver you out of the
          hand of the Philistines.

Let us return to the one true God, putting away all idols and any thing we serve and love
more than He. Let us prepare our hearts to serve and worship Him only. He shall deliver
us. He is our God, our fortress and our Rock. He is one God. But the only way come to the
Father is by way of our Lord Jesus Christ, God's only begotten Son. (John 14:6,
John 3:16) Let us come to Him, love Him, worship Him and serve Him only. Amen.

COMMENTS

     SLOTHFULNESS
Thanks for the exhortation. I am studying the Word more and do
appreciate the encouragement. Christ in Us really is a great
refreshing thought and lifestyle. We really do need to " not forsake
the assembing of ourselves together" when it is available and
when not, well Christ in You is always a comfort.
     Thanks again for the edification.
     Keep it coming
