GOD’S WORD DAILY

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 91                                                             NOVEMBER 2, 2001

WORD OF THE DAY:
     BE NOT SLOTHFUL

Have you ever watched jellyfish? They are not exciting creatures. They float along on the
current that carries them. They go along, at the mercy of the tide. They seek no path and
they have no sense of direction. They have no choice but get carried at the whim of the
water. They just float along, taking what comes, including the likelihood they will be
deposited on the shore line somewhere, left to out dry. Jellyfish are dull, sluggish and lazy.

     The slothful are like jellyfish.

     Hebrews 6:12

That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who
through faith and patience inherit the promises.

God desires we follow those who believe God with patience. Follow the persistent
believers, who stick to the promises of God they seek, and continue to claim the
promises for as long as it takes to inherit them. These are not slothful. They take
charge over their lives and demand, with authority and faith, the promises of God.

These take action over situations, claiming the promises of God. They do not become dull by reason of inactivity or misuse. They continue to practice faith, continually exercising themselves thereby.

     Hebrews 5:8-14

Though he were a Son, yet learned he
          obedience by the things which he suffered;

9 And being made perfect, he became the
author of eternal salvation unto all them
          that obey him;

10 Called of God an high priest after
          the order of Melchisedec.

11 Of whom [Jesus Christ] we have many things to say,
and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing

          [slothful].

12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers,
ye have need that one teach you again which be
the first principles of the oracles of God; and are
become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.

13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the
word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
[unskillful:
          Greek has no experience]

14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of
full age, even those who by reason of use have their
senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

God wants His kids to be spiritually aware and keen and mature. This requires use and
practice in both the study and application of the Scriptures but also, the operation
of the manifestation of holy spirit, speaking in tongues. When we lay aside the Word,
and become accustomed to float along like jellyfish with out the Word, without
God's power, we become as babes again, unskilled and in need of milk again. What
a waste! Instead, let us practice and use and exercise ourselves spiritually, to walk
     in wisdom and spiritual discernment.

Let us be consistent followers of the Christians who, through faith and patience,
inherit the promises of God. Let us become skillful in the Word of righteousness and use it.

At one time, I too, was slothful. Having been "in the Word," for more than ten years,
I needed the milk of the Word again when I should have been a teacher. Because of
slothfulness, for whatever reason, I stopped practicing my faith and was not
diligent in my study and application of the Word. I put down my Bible for a
while and licked my wounds, convincing myself I was an unworthy creep and not
at all skilled or able. Before that time, I was a very bold and outspoken teacher.

Over time, I became more and more unpracticed, less and less confident of who I was
in Christ, less sure of my teaching and research ability and had to start over
again from the mature level of "Christ in You the hope of glory, equipped with all
the power of God" to the basics of "what Jesus accomplished for me by his death and
resurrection," and "you are righteous now." I am on the road to recovery now.

Let us not become slothful. If you find yourself already in the state of
slothfulness, I lovingly exhort you, please, O, please, continue in the Word.
Be diligent. Study to show yourself approved, a workman who needs not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth. Put on what you know. Practice
it. Exercise yourself by it. Be a follower of they who through faith and
patience inherit the promises. Become one who needs strong meat again and teach
     the Word.

I love you. You are God's best. You are His masterpiece and His chosen.
Claim who you are in Christ, become skillful in the Word, be not slothful and teach. Amen.
