GOD’S WORD DAILY

     VOLUME 1, ISSUE 95                                                             NOVEMBER 7, 2001

WORD OF THE DAY:
     BE NOT IGNORANT

There is no excuse for being ignorant about God, Jesus Christ and the Word of God when
we have so many resources available to us! We have research books, Bible Study CDs
classes, books, tapes, fellowships, parents and faithful friends, holy spirit and the
Bible to teach us. It does take time to develop study skills and study routines.
It also takes time to learn how to apply what we studied about. However, know this: God
wants us to understand and to know.

In the New Testament, there are several verses that are phrased similarly: "I would
not that you should be ignorant."
In these verses, He does not want us to be
ignorant about spiritual matters, about Paul's purpose to preach the gospel, about the
mystery, about what happened to the children of Israel with Moses, about Paul's
troubles in Asia, and about the dead. There are more uses of the word for ignorant
than these, but our focus will be on the Scriptures that are phased in the manner
stated. You will do well to study these in more detail for yourself so you are not
     ignorant about these subjects.

     I Corinthians 12:1

Now concerning spiritual gifts [matters], brethren,
I would not have you ignorant.

     Romans 1:13, 15

Now I would not have you ignorant, brethren, that
oftentimes I purposed to come unto you, (but was let
hitherto,) that I might have some fruit among you also,
          even as among other Gentiles.

15 So, as much as in me is, I am ready to preach the
gospel to you that are at Rome also.

Paul was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. He wanted fruit to come out of
Rome. He was ready to preach the gospel there. He was just led somewhere else.

     Romans 11:25

For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant
of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own
conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel,
until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

God does not want the Gentiles to be puffed up against the Jews just because they
rejected Jesus. God has a purpose to save all of Israel in the overall scheme of
things and it is based on grace, His mercy and on His great love.

     I Corinthians 12:1, 6-12

Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be
ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the
          cloud, and all passed through the sea;

6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent
we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them...

Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them
          committed...

9 Neither let us tempt Christ...

10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured,
and were destroyed of the destroyer.

11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples
and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the
ends of the world are come.

12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed
          lest he fall.

The reason God wants us to know and to understand this is so we have an
example to go by, so we do not make the same mistakes our predecessors did
and so we will not fall.

     2 Corinthians 1:8 -10

For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our
trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed
out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we
          despaired even of life:

9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that
we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which
          raiseth the dead:

10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth
deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us.

God desires we know HIM; God our deliverer.

     I Thessalonians 4:13

But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren,
concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not,
even as others which have no hope.

14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even
so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

God does not want us to sorrow for the dead in Christ like those who have no hope
sorrow for their dead. We have hope in God, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Let us not be ignorant, but being diligent and vigilant and faithful, let us study the Word
and know Him, live it and understand.
