GOD’S WORD DAILY

WORD OF THE DAY:
     BE NOT DECEIVED
There are several issues in which God desires we not become deceived. Subtle deception
Be not deceived! Awake to righteousness and sin not.
     I Corinthians 15:33
Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.
The King James Version, in my opinion, does not do well to explain God's intent in a
I Corinthians 15:33 (my expanded translation)
Be not deceived: Do not roam from safety and from
virtue or truth: be aware that worthless, depraved
and injurious companionship ruins [shrivels, wither
and spoils] usefully employed moral habits.
     I Corinthians 15:34
Awake [arouse yourself out of stupor] to righteousness,
and sin not [to miss the mark (and so not share in the
          prize), i.e. (figuratively) to err, especially (morally) to sin];
for some have not the knowledge [Greek: agnosia] of God...
When we are out and about, we will run into people who talk worthlessly and who behave
Instead, we want to be a companion of faithful Christians who encourage us, edify us,
speak the truth in love to us and reprove us when necessary. We also want to do the
     same for others.
That is why God exhorts us not to hang out with Brothers who are extortioners,
idolaters, fornicators, and the like. (I Corinthians 5:9-11) He knows that evil
companionships ruin good morals. He wants us to be examples of the Word in deed and
by the words of our mouths, not a reflection of the world.
     Psalm 119:11
Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that
I might not sin against Thee.
Let us be not deceived, but let us be awake to righteousness and sin not. Amen.
