GOD’S WORD DAILY
WORD OF THE DAY:
      BE NO BRAWLERS
In the Book of Titus, the Apostle Paul exhorted Titus to teach the believers different
     Titus 3:1, 2
Put them in mind to be subject to principalities
and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to
          every good work,
To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers,
[Greek: amachos= gentle] but gentle [appropriate,
i.e. (by implication) mild:--gentle, moderation, patient],
shewing all meekness unto all men.
To put them in mind means to remind quietly, i.e. to suggest to the memory. God, through
He wants the believers to be ready, to be fit and adjusted and prepared to do every
single good work. Believers ought not need prodded and poked to do things for God.
They ought to be ready to serve, as far as they are able, without someone hovering
over them, persuading them to get busy. Just be ready to every good work on your own.
It's God that works in you both to will and do of His good pleasure.
He wanted them to speak evil of no one. (That means to defame, chide, rail on or vilify.)
God does not want others to be blasphemed contrary to what the Scriptures say. If we are
not speaking evil, then we are speaking good. We are to edify one another and encourage
one another, not tear each other down. Let's do our best to watch what we speak, to
     control our tongues!
Be no brawlers = Greek: amachos [meaning gentle] is from a + mache; a battle, i.e.
(figuratively) controversy:--fighting, strive, striving.[Power Bible CD] I do not know if this
is the word from which we get our English word, macho.
There is no rightful place for quarrels, disputes, contentions, and heated arguments
amongst believers. Why are we hurting and doing unjust things to one another? (Acts 7:26)
Instead, lets be gentle unto all, appropriate and mild, demonstrating all humility and
meekness unto all. Why? We too at one time were without God, without hope and were
dead in trespasses and sins. We too have been deceived and foolish and disobedient. God
was strong in grace toward us. Likewise, we can be full of grace toward others.
     Titus 3:3
For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish,
disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and
pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful,
          and hating one another.
4 But after that the kindness and love of God
          our Saviour toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have
done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by
the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the
          Holy Ghost;
6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus
          Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his grace, we should be
made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will
that thou affirm constantly, that they which have
believed in God might be careful to maintain good
works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
Maintaining good works is profitable. Speaking good is profitable. Obedience is profitable,
I want to live my life in a profitable manner, being a witness to God's love and grace.
God help me, through Jesus Christ. Amen.
