GOD'S WORD DAILY

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 17                                                                           JULY 30, 2001

OUR WALK WITH GOD,
     WORD OF THE DAY: "LIGHT"

Scripture reference: Ephesians 5:8-11, Amplified Bible:

     " For once you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord;
walk as children of light- lead the lives of those native born to
     the light.

For the fruit- the effect, the product- of the light, the Spirit,
[consists] in every form of kindly goodness, uprightness of heart
      and trueness of life.

And try to learn [in your experience] what is pleasing to the Lord; -
[let your lives be constant] proofs of what is acceptable to him.

Take no part in and have no fellowship with the fruitless deeds and
enterprises with darkness, but instead [let your lives be so in
contrast as to] expose and reprove and convict them."

God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. Now I realize that we will never walk perfectly in
fellowship all the time like Jesus did. He never sinned. Ever. We sin, probably in some way, every single
day, and many days, even before we get up in the morning! As we learn to walk more in the spirit and
less in our flesh, as we look to God to teach us to become more Christ-like, we will begin to avoid all
appearance of evil, we will not go out looking for mischief.

It is a growing process, a journey, if you will, one that will last us our entire lifetimes, or until
Jesus comes back. There will always be an area in which you and I can grow.

When I am hanging out with a friend who is strong in the Lord in the area in which I am weak, his light
shines on the darkness in my life and I become convinced I need to change and grow in that area. The ,br. light exposes the darkness and reproves me.

If an acquaintance tells you about his sinister plan to go to the mall to steal some stuff, and invites you
to join him, your refusal to participate will expose the darkness of his plan. You in effect, will be
turning the light on his darkness, exposing it for what it is.

Saying, "I will not steal. That is wrong. I can work for what I want," shines light on the plan. The other
person will either get convicted of his sin by your stand, and say "OK I won't either," then will change
his plan, or he will go ahead without you anyway. In either case, you can choose not to partake in his
darkness, no matter what his response. Just stand for the light and shine, but do so without a superior,
self -righteous attitude. Walking in light is also a walk in love.

Read I John 1:5-10; I John 2:1-6

Help me, God, both walk and talk as a child of light. Amen.
