GOD'S WORD DAILY

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 11                                                                                     JULY 22, 2001

OUR WALK WITH GOD,
     WORD OF THE DAY:"HONESTLY"

Scripture reference: Romans 13:13:

"Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting (feasting, carousing, merrymaking
after supper) and drunkenness, (mad with alcohol, strong drink) not in chambering (to lie
down in, a bed, couch, especially the marriage bed) and wantonness, (excess,
licentiousness, unrestrained, immoral;lasciviousness, inclined to lustfulness, lewdness)
not in strife (rivalry, contention; quarrelling ) and envying (jealous of another's
     success, depreciation of his worth)."

The opposite of honesty is dishonesty, or lying. It goes without saying, that whatever is not truth is a lie.
God's Word declares of itself that IT is the truth. Let us walk honestly.

Honest people who are walking in truth, who are walking in the Lord, walking in the Word of God, will
live out in the open. They are not afraid to live in the spotlight, where everyone has a clear view
of what they are doing. The light clearly illuminates their deeds. They will even come to the light to
become more mature as Christians.

Honest people do not hide under the cover of darkness before they "let down their hair" and sin. They
are walking honestly as in the day.

For example, honest people do not act all righteous and holy at church or in front of church people and
then go home and then act like the devil. Honest people have no need to go over to the next town,
where no one knows them, to kick back a few beers or smoke a J, or to act lusty and wild.
Only liars say one thing and do another, such as these. God clearly wants us to live honestly
(graceful with propriety of outward conduct, with seemly deportment, and decency).

John 3:19, 20

" For everyone that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the
light, lest his deeds should be reproved.

For every one that does truth comes to the light, that his deeds
may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God."

Ephesians 5:11-12

"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but
      rather reprove them.

For it is a shame even to speak of those things that are done of them in secret."

Luke 8:17

" For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither
anything hid, that shall not be revealed."

Some people sin in secret, hiding from other Christians, and hiding from discovery. God can see us!!!!
You may fool others. You may be fooling yourself. But no one will ever fool God Almighty. Therefore,
it is better to be honest and live honestly, and get reproved, if you are wrong, than to live a secret,
double life and be found as a hypocrite, a false witness, or a liar.

Proverbs 9:17, 18

"Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.
But he knows not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in
the depths of hell."

Proverbs 27:5

"Open rebuke is better than secret love."

How do we walk honestly? See I Thessalonians 4:9-12

" And indeed you do it (have brotherly love) toward all the brethren
     but we beseech you, brethren, that ye increase (in love) more and more;
( to be over and above what is needed, overflowing, abounding)

And that ye study ( to make it a point of honor) to be quiet,
(tranquil, in contrast to excited and unquiet bustle) and to do
     your own business,
(things) and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without,
(outside of the doors) and that ye may have lack of nothing."

Let us walk honestly.
