           GET OVER IT

Ever feel bummed out? Ever feel so overwhelmed with sorrow, you thought you may drown? Want the solution to get out of the funk?

Dwelling on how upset, depressed, and troubled you are only makes it worse. To turn things around, change your focus from the problem, onto the promise of deliverance. When I am down, I will hum and sing and it lifts my mood. I sing songs of praise to God. I remember the promises of God. I remember God's deliverance in the past. This is what David did also.

Psalm 42:5

Why art thou cast down, [depressed] O my soul? and why art thou disquieted [making a loud sound, moaning] in me? hope [wait, be patient] thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

In order to get out the pit of depression, look up to God. Stop the moaning and groaning, whining and complaining. Let your lips confess the deliverance of God. Wait patiently for God. Do not give up hope. Let your lips praise God. The book of Psalms is full of praises to God. Just start reading them out loud to yourself. Speaking in tongues is perfect praise. If you speak in tongues, be mindful to speak in tongues much.

6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

When King David was depressed, he remembered past victories, past blessings. He remembered what God did for him before. He encouraged himself to believe God's promises by remembering what God had already done. That is how to encourage yourself also.

1Samuel 30:6

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

David found himself around people who wanted to kill him. You may have troubles, but it is doubtful you face an entire country of people who wants you gone. When the going gets rough, you must learn to encourage yourself like David did. We do not always have a faithful believer around to remind us of the promises of God. This you must learn to do for yourself.

7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me. 8 Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

It does not matter how deep you are in the pit. It does not matter how burdened, overwhelmed or under the water you are. God is with you. He hears your cries. He will deliver you. Therefore, sing praises to His name. Pray like He will answer. Confess God's Word. Cast your problem to Him and leave it there.

9 I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

David told himself to get over it. He praised God. He sang songs. He prayed. He remembered the promises. He recalled what God had already done. He encouraged himself in the face of distress and adversity. If we want victory over depression and overwhelming pressure, we must do the same. Amen.
