JESUS CHRIST:
     Our Foundation

     Do I Love You?

How can all the law and all the prophets hang upon one commandment to love God and our neighbor? Because love has no ill effect and is not engaged in destructive evil against our fellow man.

Romans 13:9

For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Romans 13:10

Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Galatians 5:14

For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

What if I do not love myself? What if I am steeped in shame or self -condemnation and self-sabotage and rage? What if I am critical and judgmental against myself and tend to be the same way with others? What if I think that I would be better off isolated and away from people? What if I decide that I am miserable and unlovable? Would I be able to love my neighbor very well?

1John 3:14

We know that we have passed [changed places with, departed from] from death unto life, [fulness of life] because we love [Greek: agapao-the love of God] the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth [stays, remains] in death.

Pretty hard words, but none the less true. Death and life are in the power of the tongue. What words you love [dwell on and speak] is the fruit you will eat. What a man thinks in his heart, so is he.

If you see yourself as God sees you, beloved in His sight with Christ in you, the hope of glory, then you will be able to see others beloved in His sight too. You will have God's love to give to others because you have received it for yourself.

Receive God's unconditional love for yourself first. Allow your past hurts and suffering and shame be healed. Accept the truth about who you are in Christ. Receive God's forgiveness and be strong in grace. Then you will have God's unconditional love to give to others.

1Peter 4:8

And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

Amen.
