JESUS CHRIST:
Our Foundation

     NEITHER CEASE NOR DESIST

As a shy teenager, having neither confidence nor conviction in my beliefs, I felt
restrained when I prayed, especially when I prayed out loud, and even more so if
others were with me. I was ashamed. My mind told me lies that it's not cool to
pray and "No one will like you if you are a practicing Christian." I really
did not know how to pray, anyway, so that added to my bashfulness about it,
especially around others who were not already church goers.

     Ephesians 1:15, 16

15 Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the
Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,

16 Cease [stop, restrain, cease, desist] not to give thanks
for you, making mention of you in my prayers...

Paul was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ. (Romans 1:16) He knew it was
life to all who believe; the power of God unto salvation. He prayed for the
believers without restraint and was not embarrassed to pray. It is one
thing to begin to pray. It is quite another to cease not, to never stop, to never
let your prayers desist over time.

Paul understood the power of confessing the same Word and believing God to
fulfill His Word in prayer over people. Paul prayed, not continuously, but he
prayed often, and he prayed faithfully for the believers. He did not allow a lot
of time to pass without mentioning the believers in his prayers.

When we have someone praying the same thing as what the Word of God says
with us, it opens up power, it is effectual, it is mighty, it avails much.

     James 5:16

Confess your faults one to another, and pray one
for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual
fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Anytime we try something radically new, it seems foreign at first.

The more I prayed out loud, the easier it became. I prayed out loud in
private at first until I grew more used to the sound of it. As I learned the
Bible, it became easier to pray because I knew what to pray for. I praised God
and honored Him and quoted the Psalms in prayer. I prayed for His promises
to come to pass and I asked Him for forgiveness. I prayed for the
other believers and for our nation. I prayed for our leaders and their families.
But over time, my prayers thinned out and then eventually stopped until another
crisis came up. Then I would repeat the cycle.

In contrast, Paul prayed without ceasing. He is our example. May we remember
to seek God's face, praise God, talk things over with God and remember others
in our prayers faithfully every day, like Paul did, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
