JESUS CHRIST:
     Our Foundation
     RIGHTEOUS! Part 2

Last issue, we looked at our righteousness and justification through faith. Because works      did not earn these, we glory in God for His mercy and kindness. A real allegory of this      is presented in the life of Abraham, the father of all who believe.      Romans 4:2, 3
For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed      If Abraham had worked for his justification , he would have had reason to glory in himself.      The reward of justification would have been Abraham's due reward since God owed it to him      for being faithful. That would have been debt owed and not a free gift. We who fall short      of working for justification would have no hope! We could not REALLY be sure of our      righteousness by faith, if the father of believing worked for it and we did not!           4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not           reckoned of grace, but of debt.
5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him      Remember that Abraham received God's promise that he would be the father of many      nations BEFORE he received the seal of his righteousness in his body; circumcision.       [Romans 4:9-12] But now, both Jew and Gentile      can be CERTAIN of God's grace unto all, because Abraham was counted righteous      by his believing before he did any of the works of the Law, before he got circumcised!           16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace;           to the end the promise might be sure to all...      So then, we have nothing to worry about! We are righteous by faith, just as Abraham!      Our righteousness is a free gift! Thanks, God! |
