JESUS CHRIST:
     The Foundation of our Faith

     IMPORTANT MEMBER!

There is one body of Christ. Just as there are many different
limbs on your own body, there are many different parts , members,
or functions within the Body of Christ. Just as there are many
different members living in your home right now, so is the Body of Christ.

     1 Cor. 12:14

For the body is not one member, but many.

18 But now hath God set the members every
one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.

God called you out. God set you in the Body as it pleased Him. He gifted
and called you to be a member in particular and gave you something to do.

Just as a mouth talks, a leg walks, and a nose smells on a human body, a pastor
soothes, an evangelist reaches, a babe grows in the Body of Christ. Just as a
hand touches, an arm lifts, and a foot stands; a helper helps, an edifier builds up
     and a preacher preaches.

In a traditional family, a daddy works and fixes things, a mommy raises the
children and keeps the home clean, the children grow, learn, obey and have
responsibilities also. What a mess it would become if the daddy willingly refused
to work! Also, it would not take too many hours to realize the importance of
the bathroom cleaner in the family! How about if the person who washes the
dishes refused to wash them any longer ? Or thought he was not important
enough because he is not the bread winner ? What would happen to the family
if everybody only vacuumed and did nothing else?

The family would quit functioning properly. There would be divisions in it.
     It would become dysfunctional.

15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand,
I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye,
I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?

17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the
hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the
          smelling?

Each member in the body of Christ is extremely important to its overall health,
     vitality and proper functioning.

21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have
no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I
          have no need of you.

A loving daddy will NEVER say to his youngest child," I have no need for you, you are not important to this family. After all, you cannot even dust the furniture yet!" That is ridiculous! Why would we think God would say that to any one of us?

22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which
seem to be more feeble, are necessary:

23 And those members of the body, which we think to
be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant
honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant
          comeliness. {bestow: or, put on}

24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath
          tempered
[combined, co-mingled, assimulated] the body together,
having given more abundant honour to that
          part which lacked:

25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that
the members should have the same care one for another.

We are all in the Body of Christ and have been placed there by God. We each have
an important function that contributes to the health and growth of the Body.

As individuals, each of our most important functions is to keep Christ as the Head
of the body, by staying in fellowship with God and Jesus Christ. We put on the mind
of Christ (which, incidently, was The Word of God). Then we can have the same care one for
another, whether someone is Baptist, Catholic, Presbyterian, Church of God, or a non
denominational Christian. We meditate on the Word and put it on, keeping in constant
renewal. Then when our part of the body has its turn to function, our part is
already healthy and strong and restored and following the headship of Jesus Christ and
     ready to function.

If you do not know what your function is, just get busy doing different things. It will
become apparent, over time, for what it is you are particularly suited.
If you are not given access or opportunity to function, in the place you
go to church fellowship now, may I suggest you go find somewhere else
to function? Go to another church that will let you function!

You are an important member in the Body of Christ. Now function. Amen.
