JESUS CHRIST:
     The Foundation of our Faith

     THE HEAD

     Col. 1:18

And he [Christ] is the head of the body, the church:
          who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead;
that in all things he might have the preeminence

[be first in rank or influence].

Jesus is the head of the body of Christ. He is the head of the church. Head in
this instance does not necessarily mean the top of one's body. It can also
indicate the head or chief corner stone of a building.

The corner stone of a building (in this example, the body of Christ is
the building) is placed in a true, right angle from which all other bricks in the
edifice are laid. This insures the building begins and remains, straight and strong
and true. Essentially, the chief corner stone acts as a guide for the placement of
all the other bricks. If the cornerstone were not aligned properly, the whole
building would be "out of whack." It would not be square.

     Matt.21:42

Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the
scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected,
the same is become the head of the corner: this
is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

We are to keep or retain Christ as the head. He is the preeminent one.
Without Jesus as the head of the church, without nourishment, without
the bond of love, without unity in the body ; there is no increase.

     Col.2:19

          And...holding(retaining) the Head, from which
all the body by joints and bands having nourishment
ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the
          increase of God.

      Eph.4:15

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into
him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

He is our example of what is true, straight and right. The goal is to grow up
into him in all things. To do so, we must retain Christ as the head. In other
words, each one of us, as sons of God, must commit to God and faithfully
love Him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and to love each other
as ourselves, growing up to the example of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Let's
pattern our life after the chief corner stone, Christ Jesus, increasing with
     the increase of God. Amen.
