HOW JESUS LOVED, Part 7,
     CONCEPT OF THE DAY

"FEARLESS & BOLD, EVEN IN THE FACE OF RIDICULE"

Scripture reference: Matthew 9:18,19, 23-25:

" While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a
certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now
dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.

And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the
minstrels and the people making a noise
[tumult, clamour,
     set on an uproar, disturb]
.

He said unto them, Give place [depart, withdraw yourself]:
for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn

[derided, jeered at, mocked, scoffed].

But when the people were put forth, [cast out, driven out, sent forth ]
he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.

And the fame hereof went abroad into all that land."

The little girl's daddy, a ruler, went to Jesus for help. Why did God mention here that this man
was a ruler? I do not know for sure. However, I speculate that most rulers are accustomed to being
in a position of leadership, authority and power. This ruler humbled himself before Jesus. He revered
Jesus. He put Jesus in a position of authority higher than himself.

The man told Jesus the problem (my daughter is dead now). He told Jesus what he wanted him to do
(come and lay your hands on her). He confessed the end result he desired and believed (she shall live).

Jesus and his disciples went with the ruler to his house, where there was
a mourning party going on. Can you imagine all the flurry of emotions that
accompanied the flute players and people wailing and bemoaning the
tragic loss of such a young girl's life? It was a major disturbance.

I went to a funeral of a young girl once. It was the most heart- rending experience
I have ever been in. The parents were mortified and overcome with grief. Even today,
no one can assuage their intense sorrow. (They do not want to let go of it.)

In the midst of all the clamor and mourning, the ruler had the presence of mind to go to
Jesus for help. He refused to get sucked in to the confusion and sorrow and grief. He knew
Jesus was able to restore the girl's life. So he went to Jesus and Jesus came with him back to the house.

Jesus was bold. He was fearless. He confidently stated the end result he desired and believed.
"Ya'll can go home now, the girl is not dead, she is only sleeping."

I John 4:17, 18

"Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness
in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment.
He that feareth is not made perfect in love."

THE MOURNERS LAUGHED JESUS TO SCORN!! They mocked and ridiculed him.

Can you hear them?

"Any village idiot can see the girl isn't dreaming, Buster!" HA HA HA!
" HINT, there, Jesus! That's a pine box she's laying in, fool!" HA HA HA!
"That Nazarene boy is a few mites short of a farthing!" HA HA HA!
" HOW DO YOU SPELL "FOOL"? D. E. A. D!" HA HA HA!

Jesus had perfect love. He was fearless in the face of ridicule and derision. With authority,
He boldly and confidently made the people leave. After they left, he took the girl by her
dead hand and lifted her up, alive. Just as her daddy believed, confessed and took action
on, just as Jesus believed, confessed and took action on, the girl was restored to life! Praise God!

The mockers were shut up afterwards! I guess Jesus had the last word, demonstrated with power!
People talked about the girl's miracle, after that, in all the land! Glory went to God!

Jesus was fearless and bold, even in the face of ridicule. I was afraid to tell people that
the young girl was sleeping and then raise her from the dead. I was afraid of getting mocked
and made fun of. I was not confident. I was not bold. Jesus was made perfect in love.
Perfect love casts out fear. I am determined to overcome this fear and be made perfect
in love, like Jesus.

God promised that we can have whatsoever we say when we believe what we say. That is not
our problem. By our own might or power, we cannot make things like that happen anyway.
We must rely and trust in God! This is God's job: to do whatever He has to do to bring
words to pass. Our job is to love boldly without fear, like Jesus did, and speak up with
confidence, whether people mock, tease or persecute us, or whether they believe and support us.

May we love as Jesus loved: boldly and without fear. Amen.
