GOD'S WORD DAILY

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 24                                                                                                             AUGUST 7, 2001

FEAR GOD,
     WORD OF THE DAY:" DEPART

Scripture reference: Proverbs 16:6

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil."

The whole duty of man is to fear God and keep His commandments. The first and great commandment
is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul mind and strength and the second is like
it: to love our neighbor as our self. (Matthew 22:37-40)

If a man loves God, he will keep His commandments. (I John 5:2,3)

The goodness of God leads us to repentance. Think of all that the Lord has done for us even
when we were dead in trespasses and sins! We love God because He first loved us. If you can
really sink your teeth into that truth you will begin to understand why the faithful
Christian wants to depart from evil and avoid all appearance of it! It is because respect
is demonstrated by a willingness to obey.

We respect road signs only if we obey the direction they give. If we run a red light or
stop sign on purpose or drive down the wrong way of a one way street, disregarding the
consequences of such foolhardy actions, that is demonstrating disrespect to the laws
our society and despising the safety (love) of her citizens.

Mercy is withheld divine judgment. We did not earn God's love. We did not deserve, by
our works, God's mercy and grace. Yet, God loved us so much that He gave it to us
freely anyway! O the mercy of God! It is new every morning!

We depart from evil by reverence and awe of our loving, merciful God! When we respect
someone, we respect what he wants. We do as he says. Otherwise, we would be
rejecting or despising him. We cannot serve God and serve evil at the same time.

In order for iniquity to be purged from our lives, it must be purged with God's
mercy and truth. Just as Syrup of Ipecac is used to purge the body of unwanted
poison, God's mercy and His truth get rid of our iniquity (referring to man's state
being born dead in trespasses and sins, as well as the willful sinning after that).
By our reverence to God, we will depart from evil.

"Depart," from the New Wilson's Old Testament Word Studies, means " to turn
aside out of the way, to depart, to depart from a place, from a person, for a time…"

Let us turn aside out from the way of evil, departing from our old man nature,
(from which God lovingly purged of us the consequences), and depart from the place
of indecision, to revere the Lord our God, from now, until the Lord returns.

COMMENTS

Dear Carol,
I have no artistic ability at all, but I think a loaf of bread,
and maybe a candlestick, might describe GOD'S WORD DAILY.
I know you will have many really good entries.
I hope we get to see all the entries [if it's feasible]
LOVE IN HIS STEPS,
Kathy M.

DEAR Kathy
Thanks for the very good idea. You are the first reader
to suggest something. I would love to publish all the
entries but I need to receive entries in order to do so!

You may not be an artist, but you are inspired!
May I suggest that you see your idea all the way through?
If you do not draw, then perhaps you could make a collage.
Find pictures of elements you want in the design and arrange
them together in a new way. Perhaps you could "stage" a
photograph of your idea, use the photo itself or trace
the photo, making a simple line drawing. Maybe you can
think of something else instead of these suggestions.

I believe that if God gives you an idea, He gives with it
the ability to make it, also.

Like you, Kathy, I am eager to see what the readers of GWD
come up with, whether or not they are artists. I would like
to publish them all in one issue before school begins in
September. Remember, the deadline for entries is August 15.
Love Carol
