GOD'S WORD DAILY

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 31                                                                                                             AUGUST 16, 2001

FEAR GOD, Part XI
     WORD OF THE DAY:"CLEANSE"

Scripture reference: II Corinthians 7:1, KJV:

"Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved,
let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness
[immorality]of the flesh and spirit,
     perfecting
[ PERFECTING= to fulfill further (or completely), i.e.
execute; by implication, to terminate, undergo:--accomplish, do,
finish, (make) (perfect), perform(X -ance). ]
holiness in the
     fear of God."

"Rubber duckie, you're the one! You make bath time, so much fun*" Is
God talking about our daily hygiene here? Washing the outside of our skin? No.

God says to cleanse ourselves. Cleanse means to purge. But, when we
received salvation, I thought we were made clean. Yes, that is true.
We were washed by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus, and were made clean
spiritually, by faith (Acts 15:9; Titus 2:14; Hebrews 9:14). All things
became new, spiritually. (2 Cor.5:15-17)

Now it is time to clean up our act, to purge the old, and renew our
mind to God's way. Just because we are new creations in Christ, it does
not mean we are walking like one yet. That is a process of growth that
will take us our entire lifetime. We are in the process of perfecting
ourselves in Christ.

We will always need Jesus, we will always need God's forgiveness and
grace. We will never get to the place of perfection, where we are
right all the time (not until we are changed into our new spiritual
body, gathered together to meet the Lord in the air, where there is no
more sin, pain, sickness or death).

We have the promises of God that He will be a Father to us and we
shall be His sons and daughters. (2 Cor. 6:18), that we have been
given the ministry of reconciliation, and that God has not imputed
our sins to us. (2 Cor. 5:18-21) Therefore, because we have these
promises: Let us cleanse ourselves.

God will not purge our minds from our old way of thinking and doing
things and make us do them His new way. He will not take over that
responsibility for us. We must rise up and take responsibility for
our own renewed mind walk with God for ourselves.

God, through Christ, has done the initial, spiritual purging. We
still need God and Jesus to stay that way. But we need to initiate
the cleansing process for ongoing cleanliness in our walk with God.
How do we cleanse ourselves?

By the Word (Ephesians 5:26)

By walking in the light as He is in the light, having
fellowship one with another
(I John 1:7)

By confessing our sins (I John 1:9)

By turning from our dead works to serve the Living God.
(Hebrews 9:14)

Let us cleanse ourself and be clean! Amen.
