GOD’S WORD DAILY

VOLUME 1, ISSUE 76                                                            OCTOBER 8, 2001

WORD OF THE DAY:

                BE NOT HIGHMINDED"

     Scripture references: I Timothy 6:17

by Animation House

"Charge [transmit a message to ] them
that are rich in this world, that they
          be not highminded, nor trust
[expect
          or confide]
in uncertain riches, but
in the living God, who giveth
[furnishes]
[every thing, always] all things to enjoy."

Highminded = "lofty in mind, arrogant."

There is nothing wrong with success and prosperity. There is nothing
wrong with being rich. God just wants the rich in this world to remember
to be humble and meek. He wants us to remember there is no room
for conceitedness or attitudes in the Body of Christ which exalts one
self over another. Love is not puffed up.

We are all important in God's eyes. Financial success does not make one
better than someone who is successful, in his own career, but does not
      own all the fancy perks.

Often the world's standard of success is a standard that includes merely a vast
portion of money and the best things money can buy. What about an abundance of
enjoyment? What about grace and love and an abundance of peace? An abundance of
knowledge? An abundance of health and life? What about an abundance of every
     thing to enjoy always?

Having financial wealth
does not necessarily make one rich.

Who has not read about successful people who have fancy cars, fancy houses
and fancy incomes, yet are miserable on the inside? We all have heard about
successful people out in the world who are lacking in peace and joy. We have
read how some overdose or check into rehabilitation houses for addictions.
We have read how some crash and burn. We have read how some lose
everything in embittered battles with estranged spouses, delinquent children
or vindicative employees. Often their relationships suffer at the expense of
     their success.

In contrast, God wants us to remember that He supplies us an abundance of
everything to enjoy always. Therefore, trust not in the uncertainty of riches.
Be not highminded. Trust in the living God. Amen.
