GOD’S WORD DAILY

     VOLUME 1, ISSUE 85                                                             OCTOBER 26, 2001

WORD OF THE DAY:
      BE MINDFUL

     Scripture references: 2 Peter 3: 1-18

God wants us to be ever mindful of the spoken words of the prophets and
the commandments of the apostles: Repent, be baptized in the name of
Jesus and live in service to God, keeping His commandments. The Lord
     shall return!

Scoffers erroneously say that Jesus will not return; it has been so long
since the promise of his coming. Lives continue as before, steeped in sin
and perishing. But God wants us to know, in no uncertain terms, He does
not will any to perish, he wants all that will believe to receive salvation.
The longer Jesus tarries, the more people will get born again. The Lord
will return, so be patient and persevere! Look diligently for him! The Lord
     is coming back! Let's
be ready for Him. Let's be found of Him living for
Him, as faithful stewards, lest we fall from our own steadfastness and
be lead away by the false doctrines of the wicked.

     2 Peter 3:1-18

This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto
          you; in
both which I stir up [awake fully; arouse]
your pure [tested as genuine, sincere] minds
[deep thoughts] by way of remembrance [reminding]:

          That ye may be mindful
[through the idea of fixture in the mind or of mental
grasp; to bear in mind, i.e. recollect]

of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and
of the commandment of us the apostles of the
          Lord and Saviour:

                                        weird looking man, mocking

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last
          days scoffers,
[mockers, deriders, false teachers]
          walking after their own lusts,

And saying, Where is the promise of his coming?
for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue
as they were from the beginning of the creation.

For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the
word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth
standing out of the water and in the water:

Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed
          with water, perished:

But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by
the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire
against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing,
that one day is with the Lord as a thousand
years and a thousand years as one day.

          The Lord is not slack
[will not delay] concerning his
promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to
us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but
that all should come to repentance.

But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the
night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with
a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent
heat, the earth also and the works that are therein
          shall be burned up.

Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved,
what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy
          conversation and godliness,

Brain inside the head of a man

          Looking for and hasting
[eagerly awaiting] unto the
coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being
on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt
          with fervent heat?

Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new
heavens and a new earth, wherein dwells righteousness.

                              heavens

Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things,
          be diligent
[make effort in reference to the brevity of time]
that ye may be found of him in peace, without
          spot, and blameless.

          And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation;
even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the
          wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

          As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things;
in which are some things hard to be understood, which
they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do
also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction

[ruin or loss; physical, spiritual, eternal].

Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before,
          beware
[be on guard, obey] lest ye also, being led away with
the error of the wicked, fall from
[to drop away; specially,
be driven out of one's course]
your own stedfastness [stability].

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord
and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now
          and for ever. Amen.

God does not will for us to fall away from His course and become deceived by
the error of the wicked. He wants us to diligently live for Him and to look for
Jesus' return. He wants us to bear fruit in our lives, being living epistles,
known and read of all men, from now until the Lord returns. He wants us to
be found of him, in peace, without blemish and blameless. Just as surely as
the earth will be dissolved, Jesus will return. Therefore, we ought
to be found of Him behaving and speaking in all manner of holiness and
godliness. Be patient, the Lord shall return. Let us be mindful of His
     promise and live accordingly. Amen.
