VOLUME 1, ISSUE 79                                                             OCTOBER 17, 2001

WORD OF THE DAY:
     BE GLAD!

Be Glad! The father instructed his faithful son. Be glad!
We ought to be merry! Why are you resentful?
Every thing I have is already yours! It has always been yours!
     We ought to be glad!
Your brother, who was lost, is now found!
Yes, he sinned and blew all the cash! Yes, he destroyed his name!
But he was dead and is alive again! Let's be glad!

Wasn't this father very forgiving and full of grace?
He also patiently instructed his faithful son to rejoice!

Scripture references: Luke 15:32

"It was meet that we should make merry,
and be glad: for this thy brother was dead,
and is alive again; and was lost, and is found."

This verse is recorded in the parable about the prodigal son. This son took his father's
inheritance into a far country and wasted it all on riotous living. When a draught came,
having foolishly spent everything, he had nothing and was forced to get a menial job
taking care of pigs. For lack of a better example, being a pig feeder was WAY WORSE than
being the guy who takes care of road kill in our day.

Pigs were considered unclean animals. They ate garbage. A pig feeder was counted as
one of the pigs and ate whatever the pigs ate! The son came to his senses and became
determined to go home as a hired servant, because he thought he was no longer worthy
to be considered his father's son.

Have you ever felt so guilty over something you did, that you felt unworthy to be called
     a son?

God loved us even when we were dead
in trespasses and sins!
Having loved us that much then, it is certain that
He loves us as much now that we are His children!

There is no condemnation to those who are in Christ the Lord! God is OUR forgiving
     Father!

The story is really about a forgiving father, who is ready to receive his willful, sinful,
undisciplined son back into the family, with open arms! The father demonstrated willingness
to give back all the rights and privileges associated with being in the family, even after
the son dissed, snubbed and rejected proper principles for abundant living and
     respectability!

A family in God's hands

Our Heavenly Father is like this! He has colossal love for each of one us. When we go for a
"trip" outside His will and Word, He looks for us to return. He is waiting for us with the
finest robes and the fatted calf! He is willing to forgive and welcome us back into His
presence, to enjoy fellowship and communion with His children and Him. He is waiting
for us to come back up the road to Him, with meekness and repentance. He is ready
to rejoice and be glad upon our arrival!

The faithful, remaining son, was quite jealous and resentful about his father's son's
homecoming turning into a big party! He reminded his dad how faithful he was
and how he did not spend all on sinful living, yet, no party was ever thrown for him!

The father put the celebration into proper perspective. "This your brother was dead! But
NOW he is alive! He WAS lost but now he's found! All I have has ever been yours!
It is meet, it is necessary, we should make merry! It is needful that we be in a good frame of
     mind, calmly happy and glad!"

Let's be glad when our brothers return to our God!

     Amen.
