WORD OF THE DAY:
     BE CONVERTED

Scripture references: Acts 3:19

     When I think of the word "converted," I usually think in terms of making converts to a
     church. That is, converting from one religion to another, or converting from one
     denomination to another. Conversion in that sense, is not at all what God has in mind when
     he commands us to repent and be converted. He wants all to be saved and come to a full
     knowledge of the truth. He wants us to repent of our former ways of sin and then turn to
     His way of living, becoming not only born again sons of God, but also sons of God who
     bring glory to His name, in our manner of life and speech (in word and in deed).

     Acts 3:19

          Repent ye therefore, and be converted,
          that your sins may be blotted out, when the times
          of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

     repent ="to think differently or afterwards, i.e. reconsider (morally, feel
     compunction)."

     converted =" to revert (literally, figuratively or morally):--come
      (go) again, convert,(re-)turn (about, again).

     When one gets converted, turning his old ways of the world to God's new ways, the idea is
     to stay in that state; not to flip from the way of God to the world's way and back
     again, repeatedly. God wants us to consider our ways, and take heed unto ourselves. Of
     course, we all have things to over come and areas in our walk with God that need
     improved upon (this will last our lifetime). The point is we are called to consistently
     be on the right course, centered in God's Word and will. If we will take heed and consider
     what we are doing, we can begin to change and grow up into Him in all things.

     Deuteronomy 4:9

          Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently,
          lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen,
          and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy
          life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons;

     Deuteronomy 11:16

          Take heed to yourselves, that your heart be not deceived,
          and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them;

     Psalm 39:1

          To the chief Musician, even to Jeduthun, A Psalm of David.
          I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my
          tongue:I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked
          is before me.

     Luke 21:34

          And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your
          hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness,
          and cares of this life, and so that day
[the day Jesus
          Christ comes back]
come upon you unawares.

     Colossians 4:17

          And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which
          thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.

     Haggai 1:5

          Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts;
          Consider your ways.

     God wants us to repent and be converted. He wants us to turn aside from darkness,
     and come to the Light of the Word, replacing the old nature of the world with the
     newness of life that is in Christ our Lord. Therefore, take heed to yourself. Consider your
     ways. Turn to God. Put off the old and put on the new. When Jesus Christ returns, He will
     find us as faithful stewards, doing the Master's will. Amen.
