HOW TO FEAR GOD, Part VI
     WORD OF THE DAY: "ARROGANCE"

Scripture reference: Proverbs 8:13:

"The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy,
and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate."

We have all met people with perverse tongues, who are proud and arrogant.
How small I feel in their presence! I am tempted to feel insignificant, unworthy
and stupid, even though I know I am none of those things.

I am not inferior. You are not inferior. Only God and Christ are
superior and supreme. Christ is the preeminent one. He is the head
of the body and we are complete in Him.

Since God hates a froward mouth, the evil way, pride and arrogance,
is it no wonder that bad mouths, evil, pride and arrogance make
my "skin crawl" too?

Pride comes before a fall and a haughty spirit before destruction.
Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God and in due time He will exalt you.

We are all members, in particular, in the body of Christ, each with unique
functions that contribute to the working of every part. Each member is as
important as the next part.

Our educational levels, cultural backgrounds, looks, talents and abilities,
external appearances, ages and income levels have no bearing on our worth
to God and our need for each other. We all have received God's love and mercy
and need a Savior. We all fall short of the glory of God! We have all been made
worthy through Christ, not by our own efforts.

Making belittling, demeaning comments about some one who is not as handsome,
pretty, skilled or knowledgeable or as wealthy as you, does not exalt you in the
sight God or make you appear "better" than any one else. It is arrogant, puffed up,
and prideful. Rather, let us esteem each other better than ourselves. Let us bear
one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of love in Christ.

Just as God desires a close personal relationship with His children, and not a
superficial, just- scratch- the -surface- kind -of- love, we are to love one
another, not based on what is on the outside, (looks, clothes labels, income,
cultural status) but what is on the inside (heart, Christ in you).

Arrogance, as defined by New Wilson's Old Testament Word Studies, means
" elevation, exaltation; excellence; swelling pride; as of waves, and of
self-exaltation, arrogance, pride and haughtiness."

To fear God is to hate evil: pride, arrogance, the evil way, and
perverse lips. Then let us order our lives accordingly, speaking
the truth in love, using edifying words, walking in love, being good
to all, neither puffed up for one and against another and nor thinking
we are better than any one else.
